Headmaster’s Newsletter – 23 September 2016

Dear Parents,

We are always looking for ways in which parents can help and support their children’s learning at home. I am very pleased to announce an event in Founders’ Hall for parents in Small School and Lower School. Please see the message below from Mrs. Greger our EYFS and Key Stage 1 Literacy Coordinator.

Parents in Small School and Lower School are invited to a presentation on the newly implemented phonics scheme; Letters and Sounds, into the EYFS and Key Stage 1 curriculum. There will be advice on how to best support your child in their reading and writing and how phonics plays a vital role in these areas.  There may also be a chance to test your spelling skills! This will take place on Thursday 13th October at 6.00pm in Founders’ Hall with Mrs. Greger and Mr. Carlson. We look forward to seeing you there.

We have had two very well attended social evenings during the week for parents in Upper School. Our final Parents and Tutors’ Social Evening is this Tuesday (4 October) in Founders’ Hall between 6.30pm and 8.00pm. This is for all parents of pupils in Senior School and Transitus. We look forward to meeting many of you there. If you have not yet replied to your invitation we would be grateful if you would do so.

Thank you to all those who have returned their photograph envelopes. If you have not yet returned yours, please bring them in on Monday and give them to your Senior Tutor. All photographs were sent home with pupils last Monday. If you think you haven’t received them please check you child’s bag.

We are now midway through the Common Entrance Geography courses in Glion. They have been very successful so far with Mr. Pellow reporting some excellent work having been completed to go alongside the fine weather. The final group goes out next week.

Sports fixtures are now well under way with another busy week ahead. All details can be found on the calendar of the website. Looking ahead a little Billings & Edmonds will be coming to Founders’ Hall for their pop-up shop in two weeks time on Saturday 15 October. This is a good opportunity to prepare for the change into winter uniform after Half Term.
