Headmaster’s Newsletter – 9 June 2017

Dear Parents,

Following the tumultuous events of the last few hours, one constant is the certainty that Hill House continues the task of discovering and nurturing the talent that lies within each and every one of our pupils. What that talent is is so very varied but having the opportunity to discover what it might be and then to give it the ability to grow and develop is ultimately the most important gift that we can give our pupils. One of the strengths a Hill House pupil has is their ability to see when one of their peers has a talent that they themselves may not possess but they still take pride in their peer’s achievement by supporting and encouraging them.

Middle School performed an excellent French song during Assembly this week. For children of that age to be able remember that much in a foreign language and then to perform with such enthusiasm was wonderful to see. Another thing that was warming to see was the pride of not only the Middle School staff but also of the Lower School staff. A knowing pride in the development of these children they know so well from last year.

The Common Entrance Examinations finish today and the results will be published once we have them all in about a week’s time.

Next week sees practices for Field Day starting in earnest. Hopefully the weather will be more compliant although the grass at the Duke of York’s has benefited greatly. I know that many parents are anxious following the latest terrorist outrage. Our tutors are ever vigilant and the Cadogan Estate have their own security guards at Duke of Yorks at all times. In addition we receive security advice and assistance from the local police.

Founders’ Hall has a full programme of events starting on Monday with a Violin Showcase and then on Wednesday and Thursday we have the Upper Beta and Gamma Drama Showcases at 6pm. The children will be performing devised scenes they have created themselves through storyboarding and physical theatre based on the story of Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver. You are most welcome at all these events.

Details of all the events in the week ahead can be found in the Calendar section of the website. Please note that there is a Second-hand Uniform Sale next Tuesday at Cadogan Gardens.

Best wishes,

Richard Townend
