Summer Letter 2008

The Headmaster's Summer Letter can now be read from this website.

Introduction

HeadmasterHill House was founded by my mother and father at La Tour-de-Peilz in Switzerland in 1949 and at Hans Place in London in 1951 with the intention that children from all over the world should have the opportunity to follow an English curriculum while learning that every nation is equal but different and that peaceful co-existence comes from mutual respect, understanding and consideration for others. Over fifty years later we still hold true to those founding principles and Hill House is now the only London School in which the day to day administration of every aspect of the school remains in the care and control of the founding family.

To us every child has a talent to be discovered and nurtured whether it be academic, artistic or sporting and each is equally valuable and important in the creation of the unique character of every child. So at Hill House we provide specialist teaching in all academic subjects complemented by a music staff of twenty six specialist instrumental and choral teachers and twenty specialist sports instructors, many of whom are international team members. Painting, drawing and design all flourish in a strong Art Department led by specialist staff. Classes are small and, though the school is large, the pastoral and academic care of the pupils is constantly monitored by Senior Tutors who look after no more than 50-60 children each. Hill House has always had an annex in Switzerland.

The purpose built house in Glion, 2,500 feet above Lac Léman, hosts special courses throughout the year for selected pupils from London, providing experience of a boarding school environment in the setting of a mountain village in the French speaking canton of Vaud. Entry is non selective and prospective parents are welcome to visit the school any morning of the week during term time between 8.30-9.00am without appointment. We look forward to meeting you.
